So I’m going to let you all in on a little secret today… Kellogg’s got it wrong. Have you ever made the “Original” Rice Krispies Treats Recipe? It’s tough and dry. You know how nothing ever tastes as good as when mom or grandma makes it, even when you follow the recipe word for word? Well that’s because half the time they alter an ingredient slightly or leave it out of the instructions all together so it will never taste as good as theirs. Well, I’m pretty sure that’s what Kellogg’s did when the published that Original recipe on their boxes and website. They just want you to buy those packaged ones, but who wants packaged when you can have sweet, warm, and sticky right out of the pan in no time at all! So now you’re wondering what the trick is to getting the perfect rice krispies treat, huh? Well, it’s pretty simple actually… just double the butter!
Using 6 tbsp of butter instead of just the 3 tbsp it calls for will yield perfectly textured rice krispie treats that you won’t be able to keep your hands off! I mean that in the literal sense too, so how about another fun tip: Wet your hands before pressing the rice krispies into the pan and they won’t stick! However, you’re still going to want to be double fisting them so you can eat the whole pan before anyone else notices they were even there. As kids, my Nana would always make us rice krispie treats and it was always a battle to the death over whether my brother or I would get the last one. Sometimes I was sneaky enough to grab it before anyone noticed, but most of the time my Nana would cut it in half for us to share. See, it’s no wonder we didn’t get along until we were both adults!
As we head into fall though, I wanted to add a fun seasonal twist to this classic treat! I stumbled upon Candy Corn Marshmallows and instantly knew they were going to be awesome! Then I picked up a bag of Candy Corn M&M’s® which are made with white chocolate and oh so good! I worked both into the traditional recipe to make these Candy Corn Rice Krispies Treats! It’s a recipe kids and adults alike will love and easy enough to whip up for a snack or fall event! If you want more rice krispies treats, check out these Candied Bacon & Chocolate Dipped ones.
