This Easy and Affordable Date Night Hair and Makeup Tutorial gives you a step by step on getting a glam look using products you can find right at the drugstore.
Valentines Day has snuck up on us yet again! Whether you’re spending a glamorous night on the town with your new beau, or simply having takeout at home on the couch with your hubby (my personal favorite), this look is perfect for the girl in love. A pretty winged eye and a bold red lip is timeless and looks great in any setting. Ballroom or living room, your choice.
All of the makeup products used in this photo tutorial are NYX, which can be purchased in most drugstores or your local ULTA. Not only are they SUPER affordable, but they’re fool-proof and amazing quality for the price.
These are the products used:
- NYX white eyeshadow base
- NYX Adorable palette
- NYX Stay Matte but not Flat liquid foundation
- NYX black gel liner
- NYX Wonder Stick
- NYX Baked Blush-in Spanish Rose
- NYX Badunkadunk Mascra
- NYX lip liner- in Plush Red
- NYX Butter lipstick-in Big Cherry
- You will also need a couple small pieces of masking tape
These are the kinds of makeup brushes you’ll need:
- a small flat c eyeshadow brush
- a small crease eyeshadow brush
- a small fluffy eyeshadow brush
- a foundation brush
- a fluffy blush brush
Apply a thin layer of NYX white eyeshadow base over your entire lids from lash line to brow bone using your index finger.
Using the Adorable palette, select the third from the left shadow (a light tan) and apply to both lids, from lash line to brow bone as before, using your small flat c brush in a light patting motion.
Using the Adorable palette, select the the second from the left shadow (a camel brown) and apply to both creases in a light windshield wiper motion with your crease brush until thoroughly blended. Also apply a small amount to the very outer corners of your eyes using the same brush and the same blending motion.
Using the Adorable palette, elect the shadow on the far right (white) and using the small fluffy brush, apply a small amount in the inner corner of the eye for highlight.
Using a foundation brush, apply NYX stay matte not flat foundation over the entire face with the exception of the space between the lash line and brow bone where you’ve already applied shadow. Use a buffing circular motion with your brush to blend the foundation. Start light with the liquid foundation and add more for needed coverage.
Apply a small piece of masking tape on the outer corner of your eye in line with your lash line to create a barrier for your liner wing.
Using a small amount of NYX gel liner and a small angled brush, line your upper lash line and extend a thin straight line beyond the outer corner of your eye along the tape. Remove tape.
Apply the light colored end of your NYX Wonder stick under your eyes, on the center of your forehead, the center of your nose, and on the center of your chin for highlight.
Apply the dark end of your NYX wonder stick along the edges of your forehead and temple, sides of your nose, under your cheek bones, and on the sides of your chin for contour.
Use your foundation brush to blend the highlight and contour areas together.
Using a fluffy blush brush apply the NYX baked blush just under your cheek bones in an upward sweeping motion.
Apply one coat of NYX badunkadunk mascara to lashes. Let dry. Apply another coat.
Line, and then fill in entire lips with NYX lip liner.
Apply a light coat of NYX Butter lipstick over the entire lined area. Timeless glam. Success.
Loose Bohemian waves and a textured side braid are the perfect hairstyle to pull this effortless look together.
You will need:
- a curling wand (if you don’t have a wand, just use a 1 inch curling iron, just don’t use the clamp)
- hairspray of choice (mine just happens to be Matrix Vavoom)
- 2 bobby pins
- a clip
Section out the bottom layer of your hair. Take 2-3 inch pieces of hair and wrap around the curling wand leaving 1/2 inch of the ends out. Hold for 3-5 seconds, and drop. Continue this until all of the hair has been wrapped around the wand. For a looser look, grab bigger sections of hair to wrap. For a more curly vs. wavy look, grab smaller sections.
You will now have very separated and defined waves all over your head. To keep the pretty formation of the waves but create a softer look, run your fingers through all of the waves. Do not brush through with a brush though, or they will lose their bohemian texture.
Grab a 2 inch section of hair closer to your face, smooth section with fingers and braid loosely.
Secure braid just behind the ear with two bobby pins using an x formation.
Once bobby pins are secured tug lightly at the loops in the braid to create a thicker more textured braid as desired.
Spray all over with hairspray
The final results, isn’t she a beaut!
Enjoy your special evening with your sweetie!
