This Gnocchi Bolognese is a rich and delicious meal. A great Italian dinner option for weeknights or Sunday supper that’s loaded with tender gnocchi and a hearty meat sauce laced with red wine, onions, and garlic.
Bolognese Sauce is an Italian staple and every Italian family has their own “secret” family recipe. My husband’s family is no different. His grandmother hovers over her gravy ALL day and it’s always spectacular. But if you’re like me and you have a bajillion things you need to do each day, spending it over the stove isn’t an option.
So here’s the thing, when it comes to Bolognese Sauce, I tend to cheat a little. But is it really cheating if it still tastes amazing? I always start with a quality base sauce like Mezzetta® Marinara, it’s a great sauce for any pasta dish and I love their pizza sauce too! I like Mezzetta because they use simple, rich, and real ingredients. You won’t’ find any GMOs or artificial flavors in these sauces and the tomatoes hail from Italy’s San Marzano region.
Right now, Mezzetta is giving away a trip to Italy and let me tell ya, I want to go on it! But since I can’t, I would really love for one of you to win! The Country Road Puglia and Neapolitan Riveria Tour includes all of the following:
- Round trip coach airfare for 2
- 11 day guided tour of iconic Italy
- Hotel accommodations
- Hands-on cooking class including meal
- Tour of a tomato farm in San Marzano
- And more!
Now that we have our base sauce, we’ll add in some beef, onion, wine, and heavy cream to bring our starting Mezzetta sauce into a full blown bolognese sauce that’s rich and flavorful. This meal is hearty and comforting and hits the spot come dinnertime.
In a large pan, heat oil over medium high heat and add in diced onion, cooking until soft and tender.
Add in beef and cook until brown and cooked through, stirring frequently. Drain the grease and add the salt and pepper.
Pour in wine and heavy cream and reduce until all of the liquid has evaporated, about 5 to 10 minutes.
Pour in the sauce and stir until combined, spoon over cooked gnocchi and finish with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley.
