Today’s post is a very special one. We’re officially half way through the month of October, which also means we’re half way through Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers among women, with 1 out of 8 women being diagnosed with it in their lifetime, chances are it has or will touch us all.
Though I have not had breast cancer myself, my great grandmother and great aunt are both survivors. I was young when they were both diagnosed and at the time, I didn’t really understand. Sometimes I still think I don’t. I’m not an oncologist or a scientist, nothing about cancer “makes sense” to me, and even if I was… I still don’t think it really would. But food does make sense. It’s always provided me with a sense of comfort during difficult times and it’s helped me celebrate the good ones! Family recipes are a great way to remember those we’ve lost and new recipes are a great way to build memories with those we’re still fortunate enough to have by our sides.
There are so many ways to unite for a cause and today I’m Cooking for a Cure with some truly amazing and talented women. You can check out all the amazing PINK recipes by scrolling down and following our Cooking for a Cure Pinterest Board.
Today, I’ve made these easy Raspberry Cheesecake Sugar Cookie Bites that are the perfect blend of sweet and tart. But these are more than a simple dessert. If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my experiences with cancer it’s that a good support system is the most important thing of all. That’s the cookie in this recipe, it’s the support the cheesecake needs, especially in a battle that should never be faced alone.
There’s still a couple weeks left in the month, seek out volunteer opportunities in your community to help raise breast cancer awareness. We’ll be participating in our local high school’s Play for the Cure campaign.
