Slices of garbage bread stacked on top of each other on a wooden board.

This Garbage Bread is a warm, cheesy pizza loaf that's filled with ground beef, cooked crumbles of bacon, dill pickles, and diced onions! Prep this savory appetizer for the big game in just 30 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 (14-16oz.) can pizza crust
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 white onion diced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 cup diced dill pickles
  • 8 slices cooked bacon chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 1 tablespoon salted butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Unroll the pizza crust onto a large piece of parchment paper and use a rolling pin to roll it out until it almost reaches the edges of the parchment.
  • Transfer the parchment paper to a large baking sheet and use a paring knife or pizza cutter to cut 1-inch thick strips along each of the long sides of the dough about 3 to 4 inches deep. Set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef until browned, then drain.
  • Add in the ketchup, mustard, salt, and pepper and stir to combine.
  • Add the onion and stir, then cover and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions start to soften.
  • Uncover and add in the garlic paste and stir constantly.
  • Add the pickles, bacon, and cheese (reserve a small handful for the top of the bread) and stir until the cheese has completely melted.
  • Spoon the beef mixture onto the uncut center of the pizza crust. Then pull each of the strips over the bread, alternating sides.
  • Brush the tops of the crust with melted butter and sprinkle with the reserved cheese.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the top of the dough is golden brown.
  • Allow the bread to cool on the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Can I Just Roll The Garbage Bread Up Without Cutting Into The Pizza Dough? You can! It just may take a bit longer to cook all the way through.
  • How Do I Store Leftover Bacon Cheeseburger Bread? Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Is There A Way I Can Prepare This Ahead Of Time To Make Game Day Prep Easier? You can pre-cook the meat filling a day or two in advance. Then when game day arrives you can just roll out the pizza dough, place the filling, and bake it!
  • What’s The Best Way To Reheat Leftovers? I like the leftovers best when warmed up in the oven. To do so I just place them on a baking sheet at 350 degrees and heat until the centers are warm.
  • How Many People Will One Loaf Serve? One loaf of Garbage Bread will comfortably serve 4 people. So if you’re planning on a large crowd you may want to make a couple of loaves.
  • Does This Pizza Bread Freeze Well? It does! Just tightly wrap the leftovers and place them in the freezer for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to enjoy the bread just pop it in the fridge to thaw overnight. Then heat it in the oven the next day when you’re ready to enjoy it!
  • What’s The Best Way To Cook The Bacon To Use In This Recipe? My favorite way to cook bacon is by Baking it in the Oven. It’s a super easy, mess-free method that cooks all the bacon in just 22 minutes.
  • Filling Variations: You can truly customize this Garbage bread to your taste buds just by switching up the filling! Here are a few fun ideas:
    • Make it pepperoni pizza style by using mozzarella cheese and pepperoni slices!
    • Spice things up by using a buffalo chicken filling!
    • Layer slices of deli ham in with shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and green peppers!
    • Swap the ground beef out for ground chicken, turkey, or Italian sausage!
    • Stuff it with a chicken, broccoli, and cheese filling!
    • Saute up your favorite fresh vegetables and then pack them in with shredded cheese!
