A mug of Earl Grey Hot Chocolate in a clear glass mug.

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate

Honey Whipped Cream

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla paste
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • Add 2 cups whole milk to a medium saucepan and bring to a low simmer over medium heat.
  • Remove from heat and add 2 bags earl grey tea and let them steep for 5 minutes.
  • If making Honey Whipped Cream, prepare it while the tea steeps. Add ½ cup heavy cream, ½ tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon vanilla paste, 1 pinch salt to a metal mixing bowl, then whip with a hand mixer until thick and fluffy. Set aside until ready to use.
  • Remove the tea and return the pot to the heat and add in 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, 2 tablespoons Dutch-processed cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste, and ⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt and heat over medium heat, whisking constantly until the chocolate is melted.
  • Divide into two mugs and top with the prepared whipped cream, and enjoy.

Notes

  • Add 1 additional tea bag if a stronger Earl Grey flavor is desired.
  • This recipe makes two 8+ ounce portions or three 5+ ounce portions.
  • The drink is quite rich, but so creamy and delicious.
