Spread the flour out on a cookie sheet and bake at 350°F for 5 to 6 minutes.
1 cup all-purpose flour
Whisk after baking to break it up since the heat can cause clumping. Allow it to cool before using it in a recipe so it doesn't melt the other ingredients.
Microwave Method
Alternatively, you can microwave the flour in a microwave-safe bowl at 30-second intervals, whisking after each until the flour reaches a temperature of 160°F so it's safe to use.
Allow it to cool before using it in a recipe so it doesn't melt the other ingredients.
Notes
How Do I Know When The Flour Reaches The Right Temperature? Simply use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature of the flour! Once it reads 160 Degrees F it’s safe to use.
Can I Save Heat Treated Flour? Yes, heat-treated flour can be saved in an airtight container at room temperature. However, since it takes just a few minutes to heat treat it, I prefer to make a fresh batch whenever I need it.
How Will I Know If I Over Baked The Flour? The flour is over baked if the temperature of it becomes too high. Unfortunately, you will likely notice a taste difference in your recipe if your flour is over baked!
Does This Method Work For Cake Or Brownie Mixes? Yes! Some dessert dip recipes like my Edible Brownie Batter call to heat treat the mix first. And these methods are what I use when doing so!
