Don’t shy away from this mouthwatering dumpling recipe based on the list of ingredients! The ingredients are actually quite common and easy to get your hands on locally.

Substitutions & Variations For Viral Baked Dumplings

  • Honey – 100% Pure maple syrup can be used in place of honey.
  • Rice Vinegar – If you don’t have rice vinegar on hand, apple cider vinegar can be used instead.
  • Lite Coconut Milk – You can use full-fat coconut milk if you prefer you can replace it with your milk of choice. Just keep in mind it may alter the final texture and taste of the sauce.
  • Gochujang Chili Paste Concentrate – Gochujang sauce can also be used, but you may want to add an additional tablespoon. Red curry paste can also be used in place of the gochujang concentrate, but it will slightly alter the overall flavor of the sauce.
  • Dumplings – Dumplings or potstickers can be used interchangeably in this recipe. I used Bibigo brand chicken dumplings and enjoyed them in this recipe. Pork, shrimp, or veggie potstickers would also be delicious. You can use mini or regular-sized dumplings in this recipe. If you’re serving this dish up as an appetizer, the minis would make the perfect size!
  • Add In Veggies – Feel free to make this dish with broccoli, shredded carrots, cauliflower, snap peas, or bok choy.
  • Garnishes – Thinly sliced green onions, extra chili crisp, fresh cilantro, or even a squeeze of lime juice.

Rebecca’s Tips For The Viral Baked Dumplings Recipe

  • Fresh or frozen dumplings can be used in this recipe; therefore, use whatever you have on hand or prefer.
  • I use the Gourmet Garden Brand for the garlic paste, ginger paste, and lemon paste as I find it to have the best flavor.
  • This recipe yields enough sauce for 16 to 24 ounces of dumplings. Any more than that, and you’ll want to double the recipe to ensure there’s enough sauce to go around if you’re serving it over rice.
  • You can use the same amount of sauce to make a large batch of 32-ounce mini dumplings, which would be great as an appetizer since it doesn’t leave much leftover sauce. Just be sure to stir the dumplings a couple of times while they bake.
  • The flavor in this dish is very forgiving, so feel free to get creative with other ingredients such as sesame oil and even peanut butter!
  • Don’t forget to remove the aluminum foil at the end of baking. The last 5 to 10 minutes of uncovered baking allow the dumplings to crisp up a little. However, if you prefer crispier dumplings, you can broil them as well. Just keep a very close eye on them so they don’t burn!

How To Serve Baked Dumplings

  • Enjoy As Is – These viral dumplings are delicious when enjoyed as is! Devour them as a meal or serve them up as an appetizer when you’re hosting friends or family.
  • Rice – Serve the baked dumplings over a bed of jasmine rice, short-grain white rice, sushi rice, or Coconut Rice.
  • Noodles – These baked dumplings are super tasty when enjoyed over noodles! Choose any noodle you’d like. Some delicious options to try include ramen noodles, Udon noodles, rice noodles, or even Lo Mein.
  • Sides – Pair this potsticker casserole with a yummy side such as an Asian-inspired slaw, stir-fry veggies, cucumber salad, or a simple fresh garden salad.
  • Protein – Make it a heartier meal by serving the dumplings with protein! These dumplings with sauce would go great alongside Juicy Chicken or Tofu.
  • Lettuce Boats – You can serve these dumplings on top of butter lettuce or romaine for a hand-held, crunchy dumpling lettuce cup.

Make Dinner Even Easier, Prep This Dish Ahead Of Time!

We love that this recipe is made in the same dish that it’s baked in, a true one-pot meal we love on busy weeknights. But, I like to take it a step further for an even easier dinner, I prep the sauce ahead of time!

To prep ahead of time, mix all of the sauce ingredients together and store them in a jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours. When you’re ready to make this recipe, shake the jar to reincorporate all of the ingredients and then pour the sauce out into the baking dish and add your dumplings!

This makes for an even easier dinner or is a great way to prep this recipe as an appetizer when hosting!

Make the viral baked dumplings everyone’s talking about! Crispy edges, tender centers, and a rich, savory sauce—an easy one-pan dinner ready in minutes.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup lite soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang chili paste concentrate I use Mother In Law's brand, see notes
  • 2 tablespoons honey or 100% pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon tahini
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste I use Gourmet Garden brand
  • 2 teaspoons ginger paste I use Gourmet Garden brand
  • 1 teaspoon lemon paste I use Gourmet Garden brand
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 14 ounces lite coconut milk 400mL
  • 16 to 24 ounces dumplings or potstickers fresh or frozen, see notes
  • chili crisp topping to taste
  • scallions chopped for garnish
  • sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400℉.
  • Whisk together ¼ cup lite soy sauce, 3 tablespoons gochujang chili paste concentrate, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon tahini, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon garlic paste, 2 teaspoons ginger paste, 1 teaspoon lemon paste, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a 9×13-inch pan.
  • Pour in 14 ounces lite coconut milk to the spices and whisk to combine.
  • Add 16 to 24 ounces dumplings or potstickers to the baking pan and toss gently to coat with the sauce.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and drizzle with chili crisp to taste (most of the heat comes from this, so add with caution) and sprinkle with chopped scallions and sesame seeds. Enjoy plain as an app or over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • I use Bibigo brand chicken dumplings in both mini and regular to test this recipe.
  • This sauce works best for 16 to 24 ounces of dumplings.
  • Fresh or frozen dumplings can be used; fresh ones will bake through a bit quicker.
  • You can use the same amount of sauce to make a large batch bag of 32-ounces. This is great for a large group appetizer, but it doesn’t leave a ton of sauce leftover.
  • Gochujang sauce can also be used, but you may want to add an additional tablespoon. You can also use red curry paste if you cannot find gochujang, but it will slightly alter the flavor profile.
  • The sauce can be mixed together and stored in a jar for up to 24 hours in advance if prepping for an event. Dumplings themselves should be enjoyed soon after baking.
  • Optional: Add 2 cups chopped bok choy or baby spinach if desired.
  • This recipe is incredibly flavorful and forgiving; feel free to get creative with other ingredients like peanut butter, sesame oil, and more.
