Rebecca’s Recipe Review
Taste: A dynamic and sweet flavor combo with notes of fruit, nuts, and dark chocolate.
Texture: Fresh juicy strawberries, crunchy filling, and hardened chocolate or chocolate sauce.
Ease: 3/10
Pros: Easy to make and super yummy.
Cons: It can be hard to source the ingredients.
Would I Make This Again? Uhhhh, yeah, these are a dangerously easy dessert that will likely be on repeat all summer long.
Dubai Strawberry Cup Ingredients
- Strawberries – Reach for big, juicy berries that are at peak ripeness. If strawberry picking is in season in your area, I’d highly recommend farm-fresh strawberries for the best flavor! Do not use frozen strawberries, as those will melt and turn the dessert into a soupy mess. They don’t have the texture or taste we’re aiming for in these Dubai dessert cups.
- Chocolate Melting Wafers – High-quality chocolate will give the best, smooth, melty consistency that brings this dessert to a luxury level.
- Kataifi – This is shredded phyllo dough that gives this dessert that delightful crunch! Look for this ingredient in specialty grocery stores or grab it from Amazon.
- Pistachio Cream – A sweet, creamy ingredient with some nutty flavor that is mixed with the kataifi for the bright green pistachio layer in this dessert. With Dubai chocolate recipes going viral, some are having luck finding pistachio cream in stores such as Walmart or Target. If not, you can also grab this ingredient from Amazon.
- Tahini Sesame Paste – Check the seed and nut butter aisles for this ingredient! While some recipes label this as an optional ingredient, I do find that its slightly bitter flavor balances out the overall taste of the strawberry cups.
- Salt – To balance out the sweetness in the recipe.
- Chopped Pistachios – For the perfect pistachio finish!
How To Make The Viral Dubai Strawberry Cups
- Melt salted butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
- Crush Kataifi into fine pieces and then add it to the skillet with melted butter. Afterward, reduce the heat to low and stir the Kataifi often until it becomes golden brown.
- Combine pistachio cream, tahini sesame paste, and salt in a medium bowl, then mix the ingredients together.
- Pour the toasted kataifi into the pistachio mixture, stirring to combine until the kataifi is evenly coated. Allow this mixture to cool.
- Prepare the strawberries by washing and drying them. Set aside 3 whole berries, and then cut the stems off the remaining strawberries before slicing them into quarters. Add strawberry quarters to individual serving cups.
- Melt the dark chocolate melting wafers in the microwave until it reaches a smooth consistency that’s perfect for drizzling. Next, drizzle the melted chocolate over the strawberries in each cup.
- Sprinkle chopped pistachios over the drizzled chocolate.
- Scoop the kataifi mixture on top of the pistachios and gently press it down to reach the sides of the cup.
- Repeat this assembly process with another set of layers.
- Dip the three reserved strawberries in the remaining melted chocolate and then place one on each of the individual serving cups. Drizzle the tops with the remaining melted chocolate, then sprinkle on the remaining crushed pistachios.
Rebecca’s Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cup Tips
- You can use whole strawberries or more chopped berries when making Dubai cups; the choice is yours!
- Strawberries will vary in size, so if the berries are on the smaller side, you may want to add more into the recipe to balance out the richness of the chocolate and kataifi filling.
- Feel free to add an additional 1 to 2 ounces of pistachio paste or Nutella to make the kataifi mixture more gooey.
- We used this dried kataifi from Amazon, but you could also use frozen instead, as long as you chop it up well.
- Pay close attention to the chocolate wafers as they melt in the microwave. I heat them at 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until the wafers have fully melted. Be careful not to overheat them, as that would cause the chocolate to seize, preventing it from being a smooth, drizzly consistency.
- I used this style of Disposable Cups, 12-ounce and 16-ounce. I found that their lids made them great for storing and sharing!
Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cups Variations
- Fruit – Swap the strawberries out for another type of fruit! Try these dessert cups with raspberries, cherries, blackberries, or even bananas. I actually enjoy mixing raspberries in with the strawberries when I make this Dubai recipe.
- Nutella – Replace the layers of smooth chocolate with Nutella for a creamy, sweet hazelnut finish. YUM!
- Chocolate – I prefer making these dessert cups with melted dark chocolate, but feel free to use milk chocolate, white chocolate, or even Chocolate Ganache.
- Large Batch – If you’re serving this strawberry dessert to a crowd, you may want to skip individual servings and instead serve it out of a trifle bowl. Simply add the dessert layers in the bowl the same way you would with the jars, and then scoop it out to serve!
How To Serve & Store Dubai Strawberry Cups
- Serving: These are best assembled and enjoyed fresh to ensure optimal flavor and texture.
- Storage: The Kataifi mixture can be prepared in advance and covered at room temperature for up to 2 days. The strawberries can be chopped in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. All components should be stored separately and assembled within a few hours of enjoyment.

Dubai Strawberry Cup Recipe
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons salted butter 42g
- 4 ounces Kataifi (shredded fillo dough)
- 7 ounces pistachio cream 200g, or Nutella
- 2 tablespoons tahini sesame paste 30g
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 21 strawberries
- 5 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers 141g
- 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios
Instructions
- Add 4 ounces Kataifi (shredded fillo dough) to a large bowl and crush into fine pieces about ½-inch in length (I find it easiest to do this with my hands).
- Melt 3 tablespoons salted butter over medium-low heat in a large skillet and add the kataifi.
- Reduce heat to low and stir often until golden brown.
- Using the bowl the dough was just in, add 7 ounces pistachio cream, 2 tablespoons tahini sesame paste, and ¼ teaspoon salt to a medium bowl and mix together.
- Pour the toasted kataifa into the pistachio mixture and stir until evenly coated. Let sit to cool while you prepare the strawberries.
- Wash and dry 21 strawberries. Set 3 whole strawberries aside. Cut the stems off the remaining strawberries and cut them into quarters. Add 12 quarters to the bottom of three 12-ounce cups or two 16-ounce cups.
- Melt 5 ounces dark chocolate melting wafers at 30-second intervals, stirring between each one until fully melted. Drizzle one tablespoon of melted chocolate over the strawberries in each cup.
- Sprinkle some of the 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios over the drizzled chocolate.
- Add 2 scoops worth of the kataifi mixture on top of the pistachios and gently press it down to reach the sides of the cup.
- Repeat this process with another set of layers.
- Dip the 3 reserved strawberries in the remaining melted chocolate and place on top of the cups. Drizzle the tops with the remaining chocolate, then sprinkle on the remaining crushed pistachios.
Notes
- Instead of a whole strawberry, you can also use more chopped strawberries.
- You can add an additional 1 to 2 ounces of pistachio paste or Nutella to make the kataifi mixture more gooey.
- I love mixing raspberries in with the strawberries!
- Strawberries will vary in size; for testing, we used Driscoll’s strawberries, and more were medium to large. If strawberries are smaller, you may want to add more.
- We used dried kataifa from Amazon, but you could use frozen too, just chop it up well.
- I use this style cup, 12-ounce and 16-ounce, and the lids make them great for storing and sharing.
