Delicious, used this chocolate buttercream on a Box Yellow cake mix and it really kicked it up a notch. We used a Godiva liqueur and I always like to sift cocoa and powdered sugar to catch all the clumps, not sure if it was needed but it’s fun anyway. My wife and mother in law both loved it too!
So glad it was a hit! Sifting for frosting is never a bad idea, but when making with a paddle attachment and whipping at high speed, it usually works out all the clumps on its own.
Hi there, I love your sprinkle mix!! Where did you get it?
Walmart!
How much extra heavy whipping cream would you use in replacements of the liquor
Is it mandatory to use heavy cream as I’m unable to find it.
I’m from Sri Lanka
You can use whole milk instead.
Another question- I donโt have a stand mixer, will a hand mixer do?
Yes, but you will probably need to mix a bit longer to get it really fluffy.
Would the chocolate liquor in the frosting be too much for a 3 year old? Or is this cake for adults only?
Hi Andrea, I think it’s really up to you. The alcohol content of the chocolate liqueur I use is less than pure vanilla extract and a very small amount is added. You can leave it out and just use extra heavy cream.
What do you use for chocolate Liquer?
How Can the eggless vanilla and chocolate buttercream be stored and how to reuse it? Please let me know now if ur online as I want to make it for tomorro.
Dr.Surya Peri
You can transfer it to an air-tight container and store it in the fridge for up to one week. You may want to rewhip before use for a smooth finish as buttercream does tend to crust up a bit. I hope this helps.
Where can I find the Chocolate Liqueur? I must ! make this for my guy this super bowl Sunday. He is an avid, (rabid, in a good way), die hard, forever Bronco fan and I want to pamper him a bit beyond the 7 layer dip and typical super bowl goodies.
Cheryl from Seattle
Hey Cheryl, I usually use Godiva chocolate liqueur which can be found in the liquor aisle at most major grocery stores. You can make the frosting without it and just sub out the liqueur for a little extra heavy cream, it will still taste great though I highly recommend it with the alcohol!
Quick question – how did you get the jimmies so perfectly situated on the cake?
Hi Eileen, are you referring to the Dauntless Chocolate Cake that uses this buttercream recipe? I simply just used my fingers to spread them on very carefully.
Ooo, that looks worth a try, I normally just add coco powder to normal butter cream but it is never as nice as I would like, either that or I make a fancy fudgy type chocolate icing – this looks like a winner!
Thank you, Julie! This buttercream is sooooo good, perfectly silky! I hope you get a chance to try it soon!
