Blood Orange Cocktail

This is one of my favorite times of the year, not just because it’s the season of love, but because it’s also the season of blood oranges. Which ultimately means its blood orange cocktail season 😉

I love that they’re at their peak around Valentine’s Day, I know blood doesn’t really scream romance, but the color is gorgeous and the flavor is amazing. Plus they make for a pretty great cocktail.

One of my favorite things to do with Matt is mix cocktails. We’re always butting heads on what should go into them. I want something that both tastes good and looks pretty and Matt just wants the best cocktail he can make regardless of how it looks.

We went to the grocery store the other night and I told him that I needed to make a cocktail for you guys. I don’t even remember what idea he pitched but I told him it didn’t exactly fit my audience.

His response “It doesn’t need to fit your audience, it needs to fit the people trying to get with your audience.” Yup, such a man.

Anyways, we went with the best of both worlds. I told him we were going to use blood oranges because it would give that vibrant color and fruitiness I wanted and then he could add whatever else he wanted.

After several rounds of testing, this tasty little Citrus Tango was born. It’s a bright mix of gin, Cointreau, lemon juice and blood orange juice with a touch of grapefruit bitters. So there you have it, a drink that’s pretty and strong, a great date night drink I’d say.

Hand Holding Blood Orange Cocktail

So now that you have a drink in hand, you can plan the rest of your Valentine’s Day Date Night In menu, because let’s face it, no one wants to go out to dinner in the craziness on Saturday night.
