Taste: The seasoning mix actually takes away some of the tartness of the dill pickles’ brine and smooths it out with an almost creamy ranch taste (even though there’s no cream, mayo, etc.).

Ranch Pickle Ingredients

Well, if you haven’t figured it out already, this recipe is made with just two ingredients:

Dill Pickle Spears: Use your favorite store-bought brand or even a batch of your homemade pickles, if you prefer. You’re looking for a 24-ounce jar. It’s best to use spears since the seasoning will have an easier time flavoring the pickles.

Ranch Seasoning: A store-bought packet of seasoning is all you need, I used Hidden Valley Ranch. If you have a homemade ranch mix, feel free to use that instead!

I love the flavor of the Ranch Dills, but someone mention something to me that I had to think about for a while, and now I want to ask others if they have noticed something similar. Have I got your attention? A cousin of mine was enjoying one of these pickles but then he said that it seemed the skins of the pickles had become tougher. I hadn’t noticed that. Maybe because when I make these pickles they don’t last long enough for the skins to change. But just now I ate one of these pickles, that had been in the jar a long time, and I think my cousin might be right. There may be a chemical change that takes place over time to toughen the pickle rind.

The flavor is amazing, but I noticed the skin on the pickle becomes harder to chew. Anyone else notice this?

I hadn’t read down through the replies until after I had posted a similar observation. Both I and a cousin of mine have both commented that the ranch dill pickle rinds do appear to get tougher. But as I said in my other comment, these pickles usually don’t last long enough for the skins to become tougher.

I get the cheap GV Dill Pickle Spears at Walmart, and use a 50 cents package of the Ranch Dressing that I get a Food Lion. Seems just as flavorful as the Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing, and cheaper. I also re-use the juice for several times as it doesn’t seem to “go bad.”
