Ingredients For Apple Fritters
This Homemade Apple Fritter Recipe combines common pantry ingredients with fresh apples to create the perfect cozy fall treat! To begin making the apple fritter batter you’ll need all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, ground cinnamon, salt, eggs, whole milk, and apples.
I chose to use granny smith apples for this recipe since they hold their shape well when baked. I also find that their tart taste balances well with the sweetness of the overall fritters. Making for an absolutely delicious dessert!
After the Apple Fritters are deep-fried in canola or vegetable oil they get a drizzle of sweet vanilla glaze to finish them off! This is made by combining powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and whole milk.
Substitutions & Variations
- Granny Smith Apples – You could also use honey crisp apples.
- All-Purpose Flour – Substitute up to half of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour.
- Milk – Instead of using milk to make the glaze you could use water but it will make for a slightly thinner glaze.
- White Sugar – Can also use the same amount of brown sugar for the dough instead of using white sugar.
- Other Fruit – Trading in the apples for blueberries or peaches would make a delicious variation of this recipe! Just add 1-2 cups of diced fruit in place of the apples.

How To Make Apple Fritters
- Add the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt to a large bowl, whisk together. Set this bowl of dry ingredients aside.
- Beat the eggs and milk together. Then pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring together until just combined.
- Stir in the apple pieces.
- Heat the oil until a candy thermometer reads 375 degrees F. Once heated, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry them until they’re golden brown on both sides.
- Remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels or a baking rack over a cookie sheet.
- Mix together the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk in a bowl, combine until the glaze reaches your desired consistency.
- Cover each deep-fried Apple Fritter with the glaze and allow them to cool. Enjoy!

Storage Instructions For Apple Fritters
Keep any leftover Apple Fritters in an airtight container. Then store them in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or 2 days at room temperature.
You can also freeze them for up to 2 months.
How To Reheat Apple Fritters
Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and warm them in the oven at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes. You may want to make a fresh batch of glaze to drizzle over the top once they come out of the oven.

Apple Fritters
Ingredients
Apple Fritters:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- ⅓ cup whole milk
- 2 Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, diced into ¼ inch pieces (2-3 cups)
- 3-4 cups canola oil or vegetable oil
Glaze:
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 Tablespoons whole milk
- powdered sugar optional topping
Instructions
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl. Set this aside.
- In a separate small bowl, gently beat the eggs and milk together. Pour this into the dry mixture and stir until just combined. Stir in the apple pieces.
- Heat the oil in a large pot to 375°F. (I cannot stress this enough – don’t overheat the oil or the fritters will fry SO quickly and the outside and leave the inside gooey and uncooked.)
- Drop heaping spoonfuls of the batter (try to flatten it out as you pour) into the hot oil. Depending on the thickness of your batter, you may want to flatten it out a little, so the fritter is not too thick. Allow to come to a golden brown (about 2 minutes) flip it and brown the other side. Do not crowd the pan.
- Remove each fritter as it is golden brown all over, to a plate lined with paper towels or a baking rack over a cookie sheet.
- Prepare the glaze by mixing together the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk. You may want to add more or less milk than required to achieve your perfect consistency.
- Dip or drizzle glaze over each apple fritter then allow them to cool a bit. These should be enjoyed fresh.
