This Harry Potter Amortentia Cocktail is made with cranberry juice, vodka, grenadine and pearl dust! It’s the perfect sweet and shimmery love potion to serve up for Valentine’s Day or any other special occasion.

Harry Potter Inspired Amortentia Love Potion Cocktail

If you want to enchant your sweetie this Valentine’s Day, this Harry Potter-inspired Amortentia Cocktail recipe is just what you’re looking for!

This seductively shimmery beverage is based on the love potion introduced in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The book describes how this brew emits different aromas for everyone who smells it, conjuring memories from childhood nostalgia to the fragrances of a past or present romance.

Amortentia Love Potion

Professor Slughorn, the Potions Master, warns his students about this powerful potion.

As he explains in the movie, “Now, I will tell you it doesn’t create actual love, that would be impossible. But it does cause powerful infatuation or obsession. For that reason, it is probably the most dangerous potion in this room.”

Take a whiff of this love potion and you’ll pick up notes of tart cranberries, juicy pomegranates, and citrusy lemons. That’s because this fruity red drink is made with cranberry juice and my homemade grenadine syrup.

A splash of vodka gives this concoction its “intoxicating” properties, which are sure to cast a spell on the one you adore!

Amortentia Recipe

There’s one final component that this cocktail shares with the potion from the books, making it truly special: pearl dust!

That’s right, a powder made from crushed gems is this recipe’s star ingredient, giving it a gorgeous iridescent sheen that’s nothing short of magical.

One of my favorite elements throughout the Harry Potter series is the nuances and references intertwined throughout, and the name “Amortentia” is no exception. In Latin, amor means “love,” and this brew is basically liquid infatuation!

How To Make Amortentia from Harry Potter

While this cocktail won’t leave sippers feeling as woozy as the potion from the books, the inspiration behind this recipe makes it fun to serve your paramour — especially if they’re a book junkie like me!

This Harry Potter-inspired love potion is a magical mixed drink that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or anytime you want to express affection to your heart’s desire.

When you whip up a batch of these boozy brews, you’ll both start feeling a little bewitched!

How To Make Amortentia:

Step 1: This love potion drink is really easy to make, simply add the cranberry juice, vodka, grenadine, and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake for 30 seconds.

Step 2: Then, strain into a glass and stir in the pearl dust. Garnish with red berries.

Recipe Notes

  • The pearl dust is mixed in after shaking because it can stick to the sides of the shaker and would result in a less shimmery cocktail.
  • If you want to make this drink non-alcoholic for kiddos, simply replace the vodka with a splash of club soda!

I’d really like to use this as the signature drink at my wedding (BIG Harry Potter fan) but I’m not sure where to get the pearl dust! I’d need about 8 ounces! Do you have any tips!

Hi Megan, that’s such a fun idea for a signature wedding cocktail! If you click the pearl dust link in the recipe card it will take you to the purchase page. You can add the pearl dust to pretty much any color cocktail and it will shimmer, in case you’re planning on doing more than one drink but want to make them all magical.
