Whether you’re away at college and can’t make it home for the holidays or you just want to get festive with your friends, consider trading turkey for French toast and cocktails for coffee for a seasonal celebration that’ll be unlike any other. This type of get-together can be casual and comfortable. And to make sure guests get their fill of caffeine, prepare a steaming pot of decadent French Hot Chocolate Coffee.
This concoction combines two of my favorite things: chocolate and Dunkin’ Donuts coffee! It’s made with a thick base of heavy cream, whole milk, confectioners’ sugar and bittersweet chocolate, then mixed with Dunkin’ Donuts Dunkin’ Dark Roast Coffee for extra richness and caffeine.
Topped with a swirl of homemade whipped cream and garnished with chocolate shavings, this delectable drink is sure to be the star of the party. It reminds me of the hot chocolate described in the classic Christmas book, The Polar Express, which says the drink is, “as thick and rich as melted chocolate bars.”
If you’re thinking of hosting Thanksgiving this year, but you want to do something out-of-the-ordinary, here are some reasons to consider a festive brunch!
- Cost effectiveness
Buying the supplies to make brunch is way cheaper than purchasing a turkey or ham with all the fixings! If everyone pitches in for a potluck, it’ll be even easier. Plus, most — if not all — of the supplies you need should be available where you do the majority of your budget-friendly shopping: Walmart. Here, they have the best selection of Dunkin’ Donuts products for the best prices, plus you can pick up a few holiday movies while you’re there.
- Dress code: PJ’s optional
You can really have fun with this one! The dress code can be anything you want, from casual attire to pajamas and sweatpants. If you go the comfortable route, plan a movie marathon or watch the parade and some football for a warm and cozy gathering. And make sure to stock up on extra pillows and blankets! What better way to kick off the holiday season than to celebrate with the ones you love most?
- The dishes can be as easy or as complicated as you want
Whether you spend hours making your grandmother’s famous quiche with homemade crust or you stick with tried-and-true pancakes and French toast, your guests will enjoy every delicacy that you have to offer. Plus, they’ll be thrilled to try your new French Hot Chocolate Coffee recipe — which is easier to make than it looks — and it’s sure to be a star player on the brunch table.
- Impress guests with the other “mixed drink”
While the holidays are a time to eat, drink, and be merry, it’s easy to get bogged down with too much booze. Your guests will be thrilled when you make a “mixed drink” with everyone’s other favorite thing to sip: coffee! And when you mix up mocktails with Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and the nostalgic taste of hot chocolate, they’ll undoubtedly be asking for seconds.
Hot Chocolate Coffee
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, whisk together the milk, cream, and sugar and heat until bubbles start to form on the outer edge. DO NOT BOIL.
- Remove from heat and add in chopped chocolate, let set for 2 minutes, then whisk until a rich chocolate color forms. Let set for about 5 minutes.
- Pour 2 ounces of hot coffee into 4 mugs. Add 4 to 5 ounces of hot chocolate to the coffee and finish off with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
We love the holidays for their nostalgia, but it’s also fun to put a twist on tradition and try something new!
