Fish Taco Sauce will be an instant hit with your family! I’ve never been a huge fish lover, but I do enjoy a good grilled fish tacos recipe every now and then. When I was in Mexico last month we ordered some the were pretty much fresh out of the ocean and they were so good.
They had this amazing seasoning on the fish, but I think it was really the fish taco sauce that took them over the edge! Because nothing flavors up a taco like a good crema recipe on a bed of fresh fruits and veggies!
What Kind of Sauce Do You Put On Fish Tacos?
The key to a good fish tacos recipe is the sauce! This sauce is a sour cream and mayonnaise-based sauce with a blend of lime juice, garlic powder, sriracha, and cumin with a touch of salt. This sauce adds a yummy creaminess to balance the light and fresh ingredients traditionally in fish tacos!
How Do You Make It?
Making this sauce recipe is really easy to do!
- Begin by combining the sour cream, mayonnaise, sriracha, lime juice, garlic powder, cumin, and salt together in a small bowl.
- Next, chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours so the flavor can build.
- Finally, serve it fish tacos or anything else you heart desires!
I promise this Fish Taco Sauce will take your tacos to the next level. My family loves the flavors in this sauce, it a great mix of spicy sriracha, earthy cumin, and zesty lime with a bit of garlic and salt. You could add a couple of dashes of hot sauce for some kick too!
When you combine it with fresh ingredients like pan-seared or grilled white fish or Mahi Mahi, avocados, pico de gallo, and fruit. Wrap it all in a flour or corn tortilla and you’re in for a delicious dinner loaded with flavor!
It’s very important to let this fish taco sauce chill for at least 2 hours before first using so the flavor can build and if you have leftover, store in the fridge in an air-tight container for up to 2 weeks!

Thanks for the recipe! I had shrimp and had no idea what to do with it! Aagh quarantine cooking! Found this recipe and already had everything! So I decided to make grilled shrimp tacos. This sauce was easy to whip up and delicious! I even shredded some cabbage and used some of this sauce to mix it with! Made a perfect slaw to go under the shrimp!

This is really a good sauce. I didn’t have any sriracha, so I used Chipotle sauce and it really added a nice flavor to it. Thanks!

My favorite sauce ever!!! But I’ve seen this recipe on someone else’s blog post a looooong time ago! don’t take people’s recipes without giving them a shoutout!
Rebecca Hubbell says
Hi Jordana, I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe. I believe you are referring to the allrecipes fish taco sauce recipe and while this has similar ingredients, it is different. My recipe has salt and cumin in it and has an increased amount of lime juice and sriracha for a bigger pop of flavor. Once three ingredients in a recipe are changed, it is considered an original recipe.

Hello! I really don’t mean to be the Karen! Haha. It wasn’t an Allrecipes fish taco sauce. It was a made from scratch blog post, & the ingredients are the exact same!
Rebecca Hubbell says
Hi Jordana, Mine was published in January 2018 and the recipe from Tastes Better From Scratch was published in April 2018 so… the dates are at the top of the posts for your reference.

Rebecca Hubbell says
It should be fine in an airtight container in the fridge for a few weeks!

Joan says
We don’t like sour cream, and I can’t stand yogurt. Can we just use mayonnaise?
Rebecca Hubbell says
Hi Joan, I’ve never made it without sour cream or yogurt, but without one of those, it’s really just flavored mayo as opposed to a sauce. If you think you’ll enjoy that on your tacos that go ahead and omit.
Amy says
You dont taste the sour cream
Shelley says
