Cap’n Crunch Treats are a fun no bake dessert the whole family will love! Last weekend I finally finished reading Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. It was such a fun read and a total throwback for anyone who grew up in the 80s. I actually didn’t, I’m a 90s kid, but my parents were 80s kids and a lot of their favorite things became a part of my childhood too!

Ready Player One takes place in the future during a time when most people live out their lives in a virtual world known as the OASIS. Wade Watts is a 17 year-old kid who has spent the last 5 years trying to unlock the clues of James Halliday’s game. Halliday and his best friend created the OASIS and when Halliday passed on, his will indicated that whoever found “the egg” would inherit his fortune. Even though the year is 2044, Halliday’s game and obsession with the 80s throws the entire world 60 years back into the decade that gave us Pac-Man, Blade

Even though the year is 2044, Halliday’s game and obsession with the 80s throws the entire world 60 years back into the decade that gave us Pac-Man, Blade Runner and Tiffany. As Wade follows the clues, he discovers that this game is a lot more dangerous than he ever imagined.

While I found the writing to be a little choppy, Cline still sucks you into this fun world of action and nerdiness! Of course, I had to create a Food & Fiction recipe. Originally I was inspired by Wade’s mention of microwave brownies, and don’t worry, those are still coming!

However, there’s a point in the book in which Cap’n Crunch makes an appearance and I thought to myself, “You know, that’s a little more fitting for a book like this”. Now, Cap’n Crunch and Rice Krispies Treats weren’t exactly products of the 80s, but I thought they’d make a fun combo and my husband says they’d be ultimate gamer food.

So yeah, I took Cap’n Crunch and made it into a fun marshmallowy treat that kids of any age and any decade will love! Did I mention that this is a super easy recipe too? Like 3-ingredients, EASY! See, you’re already in love and you should definitely pick up Ready Player One if you’re looking for a fun read this summer!
