Apple picking is one of those traditions I try to do every year. There’s nothing like the crisp taste of apples right off the tree, and it just doesn’t feel like fall until I’ve headed to the orchard on a cool day.

How Do You Make Applesauce?
This Crockpot Applesauce Recipe is really easy to make and only calls for 6 ingredients, which are simmered in a crockpot for 6 to 7 hours until they break down and reduce to a sauce that’s perfectly sweetened as spiced.
Homemade Applesauce consists of tangy Granny Smith apples, white and brown sugars, vanilla extract, cinnamon sticks, and a squeeze of lemon juice for a zesty kick.
The finished product is full of warm, nostalgic flavors… it tastes like a scratch-made apple pie filling!
I prefer my applesauce to be a bit hearty, but if you like yours really smooth, almost like apple butter, I recommend using a stick blender to blend it after it’s done cooking.

Homemade Apple Sauce
Ingredients
- 7 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- 2 cinnamon sticks*
Instructions
- Combined all ingredients together in a large slow cooker and cook over low heat for 6 to 7 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Remove cinnamon sticks and transfer the applesauce to a container to cool in the fridge. Enjoy alone, as a side, or as a component in another recipe.
Notes
- If you do not have cinnamon sticks on hand, you can substitute with 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon to taste.
- I prefer my applesauce to be a bit hearty, but if you like yours really smooth, almost like apple butter, I recommend using a stick blender to blend it after it's done cooking.
