The Best St. Patrick’s Day Drink

Nothing says Happy St. Patrick’s Day more than this Drunken Leprechaun cocktail! Its festive, bright green color and yummy taste will surely have you feeling like you’ve hit the jackpot of all cocktails!

Green alcoholic drinks such as this one and spiked St. Patrick’s Day Punch will be an instant hit with all of your guests!

This Lucky Leprechaun drink replaces vodka with Irish whiskey for an Irish twist on the classic screwdriver cocktail! Though there are 3 ounces of alcohol in this drink it tastes mostly like orange juice with a hint of booze.

Try your luck with another St. Patrick’s Day cocktail! Both my Irish Mule Cocktail and Guinness & Champagne Black Velvet Cocktail are as quick to make as this Drunken Leprechaun is!

Ingredients For An Irish Screwdriver

Making this Drunken Leprechaun Cocktail Recipe requires minimal ingredients and almost no time at all! This means there’s more time to mingle with your friends and family at your St. Patrick’s Day gathering!

To make one cocktail, you’ll need the following:

  • Orange Juice – I love using pulp-free Simply Orange in this Drunk Leprechaun cocktail! But if you’re up for a little extra work, freshly squeezed orange juice would be wonderful!
  • Alcohol – Jameson Irish Whiskey and Blue Curacao.
  • Garnishes – Orange slices and maraschino cherries.

How To Make An Irish Screwdriver Step By Step

1. Add ice and blue curacao to a highball glass.

Rebecca’s Tips

  • Make this a large-batch drink for parties by mixing up a couple of drinks in a large pitcher. Easier serving!
  • For a tasty variation, you can do 1 oz of Irish whiskey and 1 oz of peach schnapps. This would make what’s called a fuzzy leprechaun drink! Similar to a Fuzzy Navel!
  • The combination of blue curacao and orange juice is what gives this drink its vibrant green color! So easy without any food dye.
  • A standard 750ml bottle has 25.4 ounces in it. Since one leprechaun drink takes 2 ounces of whiskey, you can make 12 cocktails with one standard bottle.
  • You can make these drinks as strong as you’d like. Just be careful since the drink is on the sweeter side; it does go down super easy!

  • Irish Cream Milkshake – A dessert and a cocktail in one, made with just two ingredients!
  • Pudding Shots – Combines instant pudding mix with whole milk, liqueur, and cool whip!
  • Irish Coffee – Start St. Patrick’s Day off with a cup of coffee that’s spiked with Irish Whiskey!
  • Irish Cream Hot Chocolate – A creamy, delicious hot cocktail that’s perfect for cozying up with!
  • Pot of Gold Mocktail – A sophisticated nonalcoholic beverage to celebrate with!

We used the function to convert this up to 12 drinks for a party we were having. If you’re scaling it up, start with about 1/3 of the Blue Curacao and taste it. Then add more as you like. The amount of Blue Curacao recommended for 12 drinks took over the taste. The single serving is fine.
