Cheesy Sausage Dip is your new easy go-to appetizer for game day! Made with crumbled sausage, diced tomatoes, cheddar cheese, cream cheese, mustard, green pepper, and spices, it’s addictively zesty and comforting for fall.

Cheesey sausage dip in a cast iron pan.

This Sausage Cheese Dip recipe has everything you could want in a game-day snack: Savory flavors, spice, and lots of ooey, gooey cheese!

Whether you’ve got family over to watch Sunday sports or you’re spending time with friends for happy hour at home, try whipping up this crowd-pleasing cheese dip.

It’s made in a cast-iron skillet, or you can even cook it in a crockpot. Serve with tortilla chips or crackers, and you’re good to go!

Ingredients to make sausage cheese dip with a reusable Shaw's bag on a white table.

Some Sausage Cheese Dips only have 3 ingredients, but this one has more and the flavor is far superior, in my opinion. Plus there are more ways to customize the heat with this recipe.

I stopped at my local Shaw’s Supermarket in Maine to stock up on all the ingredients for this mouthwatering recipe. Earn bonus rewards points by picking up all your ingredients at Shaw’s — the official grocery store of the New England Patriots!

You can also find these ingredients at any of the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including Albertsons, Safeway, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Randalls, Star Market, and Tom Thumb, too!

Ingredients:

Most of these ingredients are worth extra points for Shaw’s just for U® program members. Head to FAQ to learn more!

  • Base: For a creamy, melty texture, this dip is made with a Cabot Cabot 4 Cheese Mexican blend and cream cheese. A can of Hunt’s diced tomatoes also adds texture and richness.
  • Spices/Condiments: A pack of McCormick’s Tex-Mex Chili brings the spice! And you can’t have a game day without mustard, which is mixed in, too!
  • Mix-Ins: Johnsonville’s Sweet Italian Sausage is already ground for a crumbly texture. There’s also chopped green peppers because you can’t have sausage without them! You can also use hot sausage in this recipe.

How To Make Sausage Dip

This recipe is super easy and only takes about 15 minutes to make!

  1. Add sausage and diced bell pepper to a large skillet and brown the sausage over medium heat until the sausage is no longer pink.
  2. Drain excess grease from the pan.
  3. Add in the cream cheese, tomatoes, spices, and mustard.
  4. Add in the shredded cheese and stir frequently until melted.

Feel free to add in jalapeno pepper to the mix or on top before serving. I also like adding fresh cherry tomatoes, green onion, and cilantro.

Expert Tip: If the mixture cools and starts to dry out or you have leftovers, add 1/4 cup of whole milk or heavy cream when you reheat it to make it gooey again.

Crockpot Directions

This recipe is also super easy to make in a crock pot and is an easy way to keep the dip warm and gooey during longer events!

  1. Brown the meat with the green peppers and drain the grease as you would if you were making it in a skillet.
  2. Then, add everything to your slow cooker and cook for 1 to 2 hours on low, until the cheese is melted and the dip is gooey. Reduce heat to warm and serve straight from the slow cooker.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I save money when hosting the big game?

Shaw’s has the just for U® program, which lets me earn points one point for every dollar I spend. I love that I’m earning savings on the purchases that I would’ve made, anyway!

Every time you earn 100 points, they can be redeemed for perks like money off groceries and savings on gas! Shaw’s also runs special promos, like the Patriot Picks Bonus Rewards Program, which means extra points for even more savings!

What is the Patriots Picks Bonus Rewards program?

As the official grocery store of the New England Patriots (!), Shaw’s is celebrating the upcoming season with the just for U® Patriots Picks Bonus Rewards program, which runs from 7/31 to 12/31.

You’ll be able to earn 6x, 3x, and 2x the points on select products (they’ll be marked with the special “lock-up logo” in-store, pictured below). It’s perfect for stocking up on ingredients for your favorite game-day munchies.

Speaking of which, most of the ingredients in Cheesy Sausage Dip are worth extra points because they can earn Patriots Picks Bonus Rewards!

Shaw’s makes it super easy to join the just for U® team! Either text the word JOIN to 46359 to download the Shaw’s app or sign up online at www.shaws.com.

ingredients on the shelf at Shaw's.

How can I save time when I’m preparing for guests to arrive?

I’m so glad Shaw’s offers Grocery Delivery and Pick Up service! All you have to do is order your groceries online then head to the Shaw’s parking lot, and someone will bring them out to you.

How Long Is Sausage Dip Good For?

It’s good for 3 to 4 days in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.

Can You Freeze It?

I wouldn’t. Usually, once cream cheese-based dips freeze they break and become gritty and watery.
