The Crispy, Crunchy Snack That’s Breaking The Internet

Move over potato chips. These Onion Ring Chips are the latest viral snack to break the internet, and they’re worth all the delicious hype storming TikTok! We owe this phenomenal snack trend to Stella Drivas over at Hungry Happens because, without her, we’d be missing out on this crunchy, savory snack that has us all drooling and running to our kitchens!

These Onion Ring Chips are a delicious cross between onion rings meets parmesan chips while others on TikTok are comparing them to a blooming onion. Honestly, you can’t go wrong either way!

And though these tasty chips are breaking the internet they won’t break the bank OR your diet! Made with just onions, parmesan cheese, and pantry staple seasonings, this low carb snack satisfies the crunchy craving without piling on carbs or calories.

In fact, the parmesan cheese even brings some protein to the table so no matter how you slice it we can call this a healthy snack 😉 So RUN to the kitchen and try out this Viral Onion Ring Chips Recipe that’s been taken over the top with the seasoning adjustments I’ve made!

Rebecca’s Recipe Review

Taste: The perfect mix of onion rings meets parmesan crisps. A slightly unctuous and salty flavor. If you don’t love a lot of salt, feel free to cut back on the seasoning.

Texture: Crispy with bites of soft onion.

Ease: 2/10

Pros: Incredible flavor with minimal ingredients – and keto for those who care!

Cons: Likely to shed a few tears in the process.

Would I Make This Again? Yes, although I will only make them when I have friends to help me eat them, I could easily devour the whole pan.

Ingredients For Onion Ring Chips

  • Yellow Onions – Typically, onion rings are made with sweet onions such as Vidalia or Walla Walla but I really prefer this viral recipe using yellow onions instead. However, feel free to use your favorite onion variety when making these Onion Chips!
  • Parmesan Cheese – Freshly grated works (and tastes!) best, but bagged shredded parmesan cheese will work too and save on prep.
  • Avocado Oil – Used to brush on tops of the onion slices to crisp them up! Olive oil can also be used.
  • Spices & Seasonings – I seasoned mine with paprika, coarse sea salt, garlic powder, seasoning salt, and ground black pepper. However, this recipe is super easy to customize so feel free to use seasonings and spices that you enjoy!

  • Parchment paper is a MUST when making this recipe to avoid a burnt mess on your baking sheet.
  • Using a mandolin slicer works best to create nice, thin onion slices.
  • Do not overlap or crowd the onion slices when arranging them on the baking sheet.
  • It’s important to allow the Onion Chips to cool on the pan for about 10 minutes before enjoying. Doing so allows the melty cheese to firm up so that you can eat the crispy chips by hand.
  • However, the chips do cool down pretty fast and can get soft as they rest. I recommend eating these within 1 hour of preparing.

How To Store Onion Ring Chips

Onion Ring Chips will have the best texture when eaten fresh from the oven the same day that they’re made! However, if you shockingly have leftovers of these delicious Onion Chips then you can transfer them into an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days.

To reheat the Onion Chips, transfer them onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet and heat them in the oven. You can also reheat them in the air fryer just be sure to use an air fryer liner to prevent a cheesy mess!
