The Perfect Homemade Blueberry Iced Tea
I love capturing the flavors of the season in refreshing drinks like this Homemade Blueberry Iced Tea. From Raspberry Iced Tea to Iced Strawberry Tea and even Peach Iced Tea, there’s always an ice-cold glass of something fruity in my hand throughout summer!
However, I don’t want a fake fruity drink with artificial flavors; I want real flavor to shine through in every sip! Therefore, when making this homemade blueberry iced tea recipe, I knew it had to be made with Blueberry Simple Syrup.
It’s made with just 3 ingredients in 15 minutes or less and beats any blueberry syrup you could buy at the store! The juicy, fresh blueberry flavor kicks this iced tea up a notch, making it one of everyone’s favorite summer sips!

Iced Blueberry Tea Ingredients
Blueberry Simple Syrup – Takes just 15 minutes to make on the stovetop from start to finish. Made with granulated sugar, water, and frozen blueberries to give this iced tea authentic blueberry flavor without dyes or artificial ingredients.
Filtered Water – You don’t need filtered water for the entire recipe, but I do prefer using it when making the tea because it lets the tea’s true flavor develop.
Earl Grey Tea Bags – Loose leaf tea can be used in place of tea bags. When I opt for loose leaf, I use Harney & Sons. For convenience, you can also grab your favorite bottle of store-bought unsweetened iced tea to use in place of homemade. We like Pure Leaf or Gold Peak.
Lemon Juice – brightens the overall flavor of the iced tea, balances the sweetness, and can reduce any bitterness from the tea. For the best flavor, fresh-squeezed lemon juice is best!

How To Make Blueberry Iced Tea
- Prepare the simple syrup by combining the frozen wild blueberries, granulated sugar, and water in a pot. Bring this mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and crush the berries with the back of a spoon as the syrup simmers.
- Turn off the heat, then let the blueberry simple syrup sit.
- Prepare the iced tea by bringing the water to a boil, then steeping the Earl Grey tea bags in the hot water.
- Remove the tea bags from the water, squeezing them gently to release any retained liquid.
- Pour the remaining water into the large pitcher and then add the tea.
- Strain the blueberry syrup through a fine-mesh sieve and then discard any pulp.
- Stir the blueberry syrup and lemon juice into the pitcher of tea.
- Serve the homemade blueberry iced tea over ice and garnish with fresh blueberries. Enjoy!

Rebecca’s Iced Tea Tips
- Steeping – I find that it’s best to boil and steep the tea in just 25% of the water. Then, add the remaining 6 cups of cold water to help cool down the tea. It’s also important not to squeeze the tea bags too hard when discarding them; doing so can release additional tannic acid, which can make the tea bitter.
- Loose Leaf Tea – You can use loose leaf tea instead of store-bought tea bags, just make sure to put it in an infuser ball before adding it to the water to steep.
- Crush The Berries – Once the simple syrup has cooled, use the back of a wooden spoon to crush the berries in the pot. Doing so will encourage the blueberries to release more juice, infusing the syrup with as much blueberry flavor as possible!
- Straining the Simple Syrup – For the smoothest, pulp-free tea, the blueberry simple syrup needs to be strained after it has had time to sit. To do so, use a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to separate the syrup from the crushed blueberry pieces.
- Small Batch Iced Tea – You can halve this blueberry iced tea recipe for a smaller batch.
- Storing – Store the Blueberry Iced Tea in a large, covered pitcher in the fridge for two days.
