This Cookie Butter Frosting recipe is creamy and fluffy and perfect for topping cupcakes, sandwiching between cookies, or frosting cakes with!
It’s been a while since I shared my last cookie butter recipe. Actually, it seems like I say that every time I share a cookie butter recipe, which is a serious indication that I don’t share enough of them.
But I promise you, this might be the best one! This cookie butter frosting recipe is actually the first thing I made with cookie butter and I felt that it finally deserved a post of its own!
This is the most requested frosting that comes out of my kitchen, especially when it’s paired with my Chocolate Cake or cupcakes! My Cookie Butter Chocolate Cupcakes are a HUGE hit!
People just can’t get enough of it! It’s made the same way as my popular Peanut Butter Frosting and is whipped to perfection for a silky smooth and fluffy buttercream.
I promise you’ll find this recipe highly addictive and you’ll likely want to put it on everything, but you should probably stick to putting it on things like cupcakes, cakes, cookies, or even whoopie pies!

The Mad Chocolatier says
Easy to make. Fast to make. And absolutely delicious. I suggest using Trader Joe’s Speculoos creamy cookie butter. It is much better than Biscoff cookie butter.
Rebecca Hubbell says
Yes, I prefer the Trader Joe’s brand too, but either will work!
Lisa says
Can you put any additions into this frosting? Chocolate, peanut butter, etc? Thx!
Rebecca Hubbell says
You could replace some of the cookie butter with peanut butter if you wanted and you could add a 1/4 cup of cocoa powder for a chocolate version.
Farah says
Hi could I replace heavy cream with whole milk??

Where can I get creamy cookie butter?
Rebecca Hubbell says
You can get it at trader Joe’s or you can use Biscoff spread which is found at most major grocers.

How many 8-inch cake rounds will this recipe frost?
Rebecca Hubbell says
It should cover a 2-layer 8-inch cake. If you are doing a ton of decorate frosting you make want to make more. I usually use this frosting on a cake then top with ganache.
Lyn says
Hi Love,
How well does this freeze? And how far in advance can you keep it in the fridge before you need to use it?
Rebecca Hubbell says
Hi Lyn, I’ve never frozen this frosting before so I can’t say. But it should keep for at least a few days in the fridge, but you will need to rewhip it before using because it will crust.
Rebecca says
How many jumbo cupcakes will this frost?
Rebecca Hubbell says
Hi Rebecca, I’ve personally never made jumbo cupcakes so I can’t say for sure, but it frosts between 18 and 20 standard cupcakes depending on how much frosting you pipe on.
Sarah says
Cookie butter is always a good idea…or a very very bad idea! haha I have NO self control when a container of this is in my house! Maybe I should make this frosting instead then the jar is considerably less and because this looks like a winning frosting recipe!!

Just lovely…would you mind sharing the tip you used for the cookie butter frosting to decorate your cupcakes with in this post or what you used to swirl it in the bowls? Thank you!

Ooh well, I’m going to have to try this. I’ve never heard of cookie butter, but I can get hold of biscoff, which I’m guessing is along the same lines.

Yes, they are very similar, just make sure to use the creamy kind!
